Coronavirus cases Scotland today: 993 reported overnight with 122 in the Lothians

There have been a total of 993 new coronavirus cases reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

Today's figures represent a total of 17.1 per cent of those who were tested for the virus on Sunday.

However, Nicola Sturgeon said a move of UK tests between different centres on Sunday may have caused a slight rise in the figures reported today and tomorrow.

Out of the new cases reported, 122 were in the Lothians, with a further 362 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 294 in Lanarkshire and 57 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The remaining cases are divided amongst the other mainland health boards.

Yesterday, a coronavirus map showed areas of Edinburgh and the Lothians that have seen the greatest spike in new cases over the last seven days.

The Meadows and Newington were some of the worst areas affected, whilst Oxgangs and Broomhouse reported no new transmissions.

Today, Nicola Sturgeon also reported that hospital admissions are continuing to rise, with 754 patients currently being treated for Covid-19.

There are also 61 patients in intensive care units across the country.

Sadly, one further death has been recorded, taking Scotland's total death toll from the virus to 2610.
