Nearly six in every 10 areas in England have seen a week-on-week rise in Covid cases, with new hotspots emerging.
Latest Public Health England figures show that 126 of the country's 315 local authority areas - 59 per cent - saw cases rise in the week to Saturday.
Peterborough, Oadby and Wigston, Hinckley and Bosworth, Derby and Cambridge saw the sharpest rises.
Meanwhile Exeter, where 790 people tested positive, saw its infection rate soar from 541.1 cases per 100,000 to 601.2 - making it England's second worst-hit place behind Lincoln, which recorded a fall in cases.
Lincoln has a rate of 621.4 per 100,000 people, down significantly from 716.0 a week earlier.
According to the Department of Health, 196,047 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the past seven days across the whole of the UK - a seven per cent rise compared to the previous week.

But there is encouraging news, with 126 areas seeing Covid rates fall, while two remained the same.
The five areas with the biggest week-on-week rises are:
- Peterborough (up from 301.1 to 441.0)
- Oadby and Wigston (249.1 to 384.1)
- Hinckley and Bosworth (272.2 to 394.2)
- Derby (235.1 to 338.1)
- Cambridge (322.1 to 423.1)
The UK today recorded its highest number of daily Covid deaths since March, with 146 lives lost to the virus.
Today's figure is the highest daily figure since March 6, when 153 fatalities were reported, and brings the official death toll since the start of the pandemic to 130,503.
The Department of Health said a further 23,510 people had tested positive for coronavirus in 24 hours - a slight increase on the 21,691 confirmed last week.
There have been 622 Covid deaths in the past seven days, a 14.8 per cent increase compared to the previous week.
But encouraging figures show hospitalisations are falling, with 5,308 admissions in the past seven days, 11.8 per cent lower than the week before.

Earlier today new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that the weekly number of coronavirus deaths in England and Wales has climbed to its highest level since the end of March.
A total of 404 deaths registered in the week ending July 30 mentioned Covid-19 on the death certificate, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
This is up 24 per cent on the previous week and is the highest number since 719 deaths were registered in the week to March 26.
Deaths increased in seven of England's nine regions, with the biggest rise in Yorkshire and the Humber, where there were 30 more fatalities compared with the previous week.
