Coronavirus cases jump up across Bristol in UK's third highest daily rise ever

All areas across the Bristol region saw a significant rise in coronavirus cases today (Wednesday) in the UK's third highest daily rise ever.

According to the latest official figures (September 23), 19 further people were diagnosed with the virus in Bristol. That brings our city's total to 1,748.

And North Somerset also saw cases jump up. A total of 17 was reported there, bringing the district's total to 1,100.

UK-wide, 6,178 positive lab tests were recorded over the past 24 hours, bringing the nation's total to 409,729.

South Gloucestershire reported a rise of nine, its total stands at 970.

While Bath and North East Somerset recorded seven, the total there is now 495.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a new death over the past 24 hours, where deaths remain at 271.

Southmead Hospital reported a coronavirus -related death on Tuesday August 25, which was the first in the city for two months.

Nationally, 37 further Covid-related deaths were recorded, bringing the UK's total to 41,862.
