Coronavirus cases in Scotland soar to 322 - an increase of 56 in just 24 hours

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Scotland has risen to 322 - an increase of 56 cases in just 24 hours.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced this afternoon that as of 9am this morning, Friday 20 March, there had been no further deaths in the last day.

The First Minister extended her best wishes to children who are facing their last day of school for an unknown length: "as you finish school today thank you for your hard work - you are credits to your schools, communities and families."

Sturgeon also reiterated that everyone should be following the government's latest guidance on self isolation: "I know you might want to go out to the pub with your friends or have one last dinner out but my advice is simply do not, this self-isolation advice is not optional.

"It is vital for the protection of your loved ones and our NHS and its ability to care for those who will need it in the weeks to come.

"I cannot be clearer - do not think this advice doesn't apply to you. Even if you have mild symptoms you still run the risk of passing the virus onto people who are more vulnerable."
