Coronavirus cases in Leeds approaching 800 as new NHS figures released

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Leeds has increased to 779.

The figure has increased by 45 since Tuesday's figure of 734 and comes as the number of confirmed cases in Yorkshire rose to nearly 6,000.

Public Health England today (Wednesday) announced another 512 confirmed cases have been recorded in Yorkshire over the last 24 hours, meaning 5,790 people have now tested positive for the virus in the county.

The Department for Health states 98,476 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 in the UK and the death toll has reached 12,868.

Today, NHS England announced another 761 deaths have been recorded in the UK, with 29 of those in Yorkshire.

The patients were aged between 20 and 101-years-old and 20 of those patients had no known underlying health conditions.

The UK remains under lockdown, after the government ordered people to only leave their homes under a list of “very limited purposes”, banned public gatherings of more than two people and ordered the closure of non-essential shops, schools, pubs and restaurants.

Dominic Raab, foreign secretary, has said the government is not expecting the make changes to the restrictions this week and "we are still not past the peak of this virus".
