Coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire tops more than 100 after steady rise in cases

The number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire has passed the 100 mark.

The Scottish Government have confirmed there are 114 positive cases in the area - a rise of 27 the previous day.

Across Scotland, a total of 894 tests were positive while 25 patients have died.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says the number of people in intensive care in Scotland is now 57.

There is spare capacity in intensive care right now and the work to increase it is ongoing, she adds.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Catherine Calderwood hopes the rapid acceleration in Scotland will not be as rapid as in other parts of the UK, but adds that is not to say it won’t be rapid.
