Coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire drop for first time since July

New weekly coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire fell for the first time since July last week.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed a further 268 cases in the region for yesterday at her daily briefing on Monday, November 2.

That brings the total number of new Covid cases in the region for last week (week beginning October 26) to 2001 - 718 less than the previous week.

Each of the previous 12 weeks had seen a consistent rise in new Covid-19 cases across the Lanarkshire, peaking at 2719 two weeks ago (week beginning October 26)

However, last week was the third consecutive week that more than 2000 cases were recorded in the region.

In total, 13,396 people in Lanarkshire have tested positive for coronavirus.

Sunday, October 25 and Monday, October 26 saw the highest number of daily deaths in Lanarkshire since April 8 - the only previous day that had seen more than 10 deaths from the virus.

There were 12 coronavirus deaths recorded on April 8 before 11 were recorded on October 25 and 10 on October 26.

Up to Saturday, October 31, 443 people in Lanarkshire had died from coronavirus.

Across Scotland yesterday, 951 people tested positive for the virus but no new deaths were recorded.

From today, Monday, November 2, new level three restrictions come into force in Lanarkshire as the Scottish Government’s new five-tier system of restrictions is implemented.
