Coronavirus cases in Glasgow increase from three to five as 36 diagnosed across Scotland

The number of cases of coronavirus in Glasgow has risen to five, according to the Scottish Government.

Two more people in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area have been diagnosed with the COVID-19 strain of the highly infectious virus.

The number of cases in Lanarkshire have also increased from two to four.

Across Scotland, the number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus has risen from 27 to 36 - a jump of nine people.

A total of 2,316 tests have been conducted, with 2,280 confirmed negative for the disease.

The first case of coronavirus in Glasgow was confirmed six days ago on March 5.

Lothian has the most confirmed cases of the disease, with eight diagnoses, followed by Grampian with six and Greater Glasgow and Clyde with five.

Six people in the UK have died of coronavirus in the UK so far, with a total of 382 cases across the country.

Many Glaswegians are taking drastic measures to protect themselves and their families from the COVID-19 virus, and Glasgow Live spoke to members of the public to get people's thoughts on the outbreak.

Meanwhile, Glasgow South West Food Bank has called for people to 'not panic buy' amid fears that hoarding food could have a devastating affect on hard-up families in the city.
