Coronavirus cases in Bristol and all three surrounding areas record rise

Four areas in the West of England have recorded a rise in coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours.

According to figures released by Public Health England today (Sunday, August 9), Bristol's confirmed cases have jumped to 1,355 after a slight increase of two.

North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset has both recorded a further case, bringing their totals to 921 and 358 respectively.

Meanwhile South Gloucestershire now has 773 patients who have tested positive for the virus after a rise of two.

Nationally, 310,825 cases have been recorded following a daily rise of 1,062.

The South West's coronavirus growth rate has also risen higher than any other area of England, the latest Government data shows.

Its growth rate – the percentage change in the number of cases each day – has reached between minus three per cent and plus three per cent, according to figures released on Friday (August 7).

This is the highest range in England. The next highest is the North West, where the range is between minus three per cent and plus one per cent.

Across the UK, 46,574 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded so far, a daily rise of eight.
