Coronavirus cases found at four schools and nurseries in Stirling and Falkirk

Coronavirus cases have been found in four Forth Valley schools and nurseries.

Contact tracing is taking place at Maddison Nursery and St Francis Xavier’s Primary in Falkirk and at Riverside Primary School and St Modan’s High School in Stirling.

A spokeswoman for the health board confirmed at least one positive case had been identified at each.

Everyone who contracted the virus is now self-isolating and it is understood nobody picked up the bug at any of the schools.

A spokeswoman added that 'robust' measures were already in place and all the schools and nurseries would remain open.

Dr Graham Foster, NHS Forth Valley’s Director of Public Health, said: “We are seeing more cases of Covid-19 in local communities across Forth Valley and it’s therefore really important that everyone follows the national guidance to protect themselves and others.

“Please follow the FACTs guidance, wear a face covering when advised, avoid crowded places, wash your hands and any hard surfaces regularly, stay two metres apart and self-isolate and book a test if you develop any of the symptoms of Covid-19.”

A statement from NHS Forth Valley added: "Initial information suggests the virus was contracted outside of the establishments and there is no evidence at this stage of any transmission within these premises.

"The individuals who have tested positive for the virus are self-isolating at home along with the rest of their household."

Further suspected cases have been identified today at university halls of residence in Dundee and Aberdeen.
