Coronavirus cases Edinburgh: Map shows Covid hotspots with highest number of infections

A map has revealed Edinburgh's latest Covid hotspots, marking out the areas with the highest number of infections.

Based on data from Public Health Scotland, the number of cases in each area is charted over a seven-day period.

The data shows that much of Edinburgh city centre is not a coronavirus hotspot, including Old Town, Princes Street and Leith Street.

Meanwhile, over 20 neighbourhoods in the capital are recording a higher number of cases, with 100 and over cases per 100,00 of the population.

Bordering Drylaw, Blackhall, Muirhouse, Craigleith, Pilton and Granton are among these Covid hotspots.

Nearby, Corstorphine North and East Craigs are also among the affected areas.

Elsewhere, Gilmerton South and the Murrays and Craigmillar are also among the highest level of infections.

You can find the interactive map here.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon announced this week that Edinburgh was to stay in level three lockdown following a "slight" increase in infections in recent days.

She added that the imminence of Christmas was also a contributing factor the decision.

However, local councillors and politicians have criticised the decision, with the capital meeting the criteria for level two restrictions a number of weeks ago.
