Coronavirus cases at Bristol school see more than 150 pupils ordered to isolate

More than 150 pupils have been ordered to self-isolate after two confirmed coronavirus cases at a Brislington school.

Year 8 and Year 11 have been partially closed at Oasis Academy for 14 days.

It is the latest positive case at a school in Bristol, as pupils return to classrooms following the October break.

A spokesperson for the school said: "We have been advised by Public Health England of a confirmed case of COVID-19 within two year groups, Year 8 and Year 11.

"In line with advice from Public Health England, a Year 8 ‘bubble’ of 72 students and a Year 11 ‘bubble’ of 87 students are now isolating, and teachers will support them to continue their learning at home."

Last term, 74 schools and nurseries in Bristol were hit with Covid after 130 pupils and 73 members of staff were diagnosed with the virus.

You should book a Covid-19 test if your child has at least one of the following:

  • A high temperature - This means if they feel hot to touch on the chest or back. You do not need to measure their temperature.
  • A new continuous cough - This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If your child usually has a cough, it may be worse than usual).
  • A loss or change to their sense of smell or taste - They've noticed they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

If your child does not have symptoms of coronavirus but has other cold-like symptoms, such as a runny nose, they do not need to be tested, and they or members of your household do not need to self-isolate. Your child can attend school if fit to do so.
