Coronavirus cases across Bristol region surge by more than 100

A further 102 coronavirus cases have been recorded across all four areas in the Bristol region over the past 24 hours.

It's the third time in three consecutive days that the local figures have topped 100, according to data from Public Health England released today (October 5).

On Sunday, 178 new cases were confirmed, while on Saturday the figure was 111.

Ministers have warned a 'technical issue', which has now been resolved, has led to a delay in publishing a number of COVID-19 cases to the dashboard.

This means the total reported over the coming days will include some additional cases from the period between September 24 and October 2.

Today (Monday) Bristol recorded the biggest rise, with 41 new cases. That brings our city's total to 2,050 people diagnosed with the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Bath and North East Somerset reported a further 27, the total there now stands at 636.

While South Gloucestershire saw a jump of 22, bringing its total to 1,150.

And North Somerset recorded 12 more cases, its total is 1,194.

UK-wide, 12,594 new Covid cases were reported. That brings our nation's total to 515,571.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded any new coronavirus-related deaths in the latest 24 hour period.

North Bristol NHS Trust last recorded a death on August 25, while University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has gone since July 10 without a death related to COVID-19.

Across the UK, 19 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded today. The national total now stands at 42,369.
