Coronavirus cases across Bristol region soar by more than 100

Coronavirus infections have soared by 103 across all four areas in the Bristol region.

It's the fourth time in four consecutive days that the local figures have topped 100, according to data from Public Health England released today (October 6).

On Monday, 102 further cases were reported, Sunday 178, while on Saturday the figure was 111.

Ministers have warned a 'technical issue', which has now been resolved, has led to a delay in publishing a number of COVID-19 cases to the dashboard.

This means the total reported over the coming days will include some additional cases from the period between September 24 and October 2.

Bristol recorded 42 new cases today. That brings our city's total to 2,092 people diagnosed with the virus since the start of the pandemic.

And North Somerset recorded 23 more positive lab tests, its total is 1,217.

Bath and North East Somerset reported a jump of 20, the total there now stands at 656.

While South Gloucestershire saw a rise of 18, bringing its total to 1,168.

UK-wide, 14,542 new Covid cases were reported. That brings our nation's total to 530,113.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded any new coronavirus-related deaths in the latest 24 hour period.

North Bristol NHS Trust last recorded a death on August 25, while University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has gone since July 10 without a death related to COVID-19.

Across the UK, 79 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded today. The national total now stands at 42,445.
