Coronavirus case sees six classes closed at Portishead primary school

Six classes at a Portishead primary school have been closed after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

Parents of students at Portishead Primary School were sent a message this morning (Thursday, November 19) to inform them of the class closures.

Octopus, Penguin, Brunel, Scott, Peake and Fossey classes have all been affected.

Students who have been in close contact with the staff member have been informed they must self isolate for 14 days.

It is not known how many children have been asked to stay at home.

School leaders say they are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

In a letter sent to parents headteacher Richard Riordan said: “A member of staff in our school community has tested positive for Covid 19.

“We are continuing the monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

“The children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus have received a letter informing them they must stay at home for 14 days.”

The school, at Station Road, is a member of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership multi-academy trust and has 450 students on roll.
