Coronavirus case rate for your area as Scotland enters into fourth week of lockdown

Scotland has entered into a fourth week of stay at home lockdown restrictions as the number of coronavirus cases remains high across the country.

The latest data released by Public Health Scotland shows that 9,142 positive cases of covid were recorded across the country in the week between January 18 to 24.

A total of 7.7% of people tested for the virus during that week recorded a positive test.

Scotland also recorded an overall 7-day positive rate 167.3 per 100,000 population.

The local authority with the highest infection rate over the week was in North Lanarkshire - with a 7-day positive rate of 278.9 per 100,000 population.

Glasgow, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire were not far behind.

As of January 20, the rate of reproduction (the R-rate) of the virus in Scotland is estimated to be somewhere between 0.8 and 1.1.

Scots are expected to remain in lockdown until at least mid-February at the earlier, according to Nicola Sturgeon.

The Scottish Government will review the stay at home restrictions on Tuesday next week.

The First Minister said she was “truly sorry” for any mistakes during the course of the pandemic after confirming 7,902 deaths were linked to Covid in Scotland.

Speaking at her daily press briefing earlier today, Sturgeon said: “Those numbers should make anyone in a position of authority, and I know they certainly make me, think very hard about more we could have done and what lessons we must continue to learn.

“I know that I and everyone in my government have tried every day to do everything we possible can, but I don’t think any of us, reflecting on numbers like these, can conclude that we have always succeeded."
