Coronavirus: Bundesliga reveals 10 positive tests across 36 clubs ahead of restart

Ten individuals connected to the 36 clubs in the top two tiers of German football have tested positive for coronavirus.

A statement from the German football league (DFL) on Monday confirmed the news, and said the individuals had been isolated.

In total 1,724 tests were carried out at the 36 clubs since last Thursday, with a second wave of tests to be conducted this week, the DFL said.

“The corresponding measures, for example the isolation of the affected persons, were taken directly by the respective clubs according to the specifications of the local health authorities,” the statement added.

The Bundesliga is working towards a resumption of action at some stage this month.

Although Bundesliga clubs have returned to training in small groups, the league has been suspended since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic and the government is to decide next week on a potential resumption of sports activities.

The German Football League (DFL), eager for a quick restart, has submitted a health safety plan for games without spectators which includes regular testing of players but no quarantine for entire squads in cases of positive tests. PA
