Coronavirus: Bristol sees 14 new cases in 24 hours

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bristol has risen by 14 in a day - the biggest daily increase of confirmed cases so far.

The figure has gone from 78 to 92 in the city in today's (March 30) update from Public Health England.

Cases have also increased in surrounding areas. In South Gloucestershire, there are now 58 positive tests, with 36 in North Somerset and 39 in Bath & North-East Somerset.

It comes after First Bus confirmed on Sunday its Bristol-based driver Martin Egan has died with coronavirus.

Mr Egan is the third person known to have died in the Bristol area having tested positive for the virus.

A 94-year-old man sadly passed away at Weston General Hospital last week and retired police officer Nick Matthews died in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on March 14.

Today's figures show the UK death toll is 1,408 - a rise of 180 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 134,946 people have been tested and 22,141 were positive.

The risk to the UK has been raised to high by the government.
