Coronavirus breakdown for Northern Ireland shows 201 people are now in hospital

Another 763 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours according to the Department of Health.

The lion's share of that number was in Belfast where 201 people found out they have the virus.

New statistics, revealed on the department's daily dashboard update today also revealed a further four deaths, bringing their death toll to 606.

A total of 23,878 people across NI have now tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began, 6,394 of whom got their results in the last week.

The Belfast area has seen the largest rise in new cases in the past seven days with 1,622, followed by the Derry City and Strabane area with 1,311 and Mid Ulster with 696.

Derry City and Strabane has the highest infection rate in Northern Ireland at 870.1 per 100,000 people. The infection rate in Belfast is 475.3 per 100,000.

Those aged 20 to 39 have seen the largest increase in new infections with 2,532 in the past week.

This is followed by those aged 40 to 59 with 1,873 and those aged 0 to 19 with 1,101, although the rate of infection has fallen in all three age groups since Wednesday.

There are currently 201 inpatients in hospital infected with Covid-19, with the Belfast Trust seeing the most admissions in the past week with 68.

There are currently 24 patients in intensive care infected with the virus and 17 are on ventilators.

The number of care home outbreaks appear to be rising, with 64 confirmed current outbreaks and 10 suspected.

To date, 426,399 people have been tested for the virus across the North.
