Coronavirus: BP launch free fuel for emergency services during Covid19 crisis

For NHS frontline staff staying home during the Coronavirus crisis is not an option, so in response many major corporations are supporting frontline staff in any way they can.

Yesterday fuel giant BP announced it will be giving away free fuel to all emergency services, this will be through fuel cards that are widely used by ambulance, fire and police vehicles.

The free fuel offer is expected to be in place from 21 March from over 1,200 BP-operated and dealer-operated retail sites.

Bernard Looney, BP chief executive said: “This crisis is affecting every part of society and all us of are trying to do what we can to help. It is vital that we support those on whom we all depend, as well as the most vulnerable in our communities.

"We have identified two ways where we can use our resources and presence around the country to make a small contribution. We will continue to look for other opportunities, taking advice from the authorities, as the country’s response continues to evolve.”

The other initiative to be rolled out by BP will waiver any charges for delivery of food and convenience goods purchased from its network of company-owned convenience stores.

This includes any purchases made through Deliveroo for items from its retail branches.

The move comes as more global corporations look to support frontline staff.

Yesterday McDonald's announced it will now offer free drinks to all NHS staff in its restaurants and drive thu branches.

Coffee chains Pret and Starbucks are also offering NHS workers free food and drink during the outbreak as a thank you.
