Coronavirus: Boris Johnson declares 'we will act like wartime Government and beat this enemy'

Boris Johnson has told British citizens the government will act as if it is in wartime in a bid to beat 'this enemy' amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Prime Minister warned the deadly virus will "overwhelm the NHS" and more "extreme measures" may be needed to protect lives in the future.

He echoed advice yesterday that all all 'non-essential' contact and stop going to pubs, restaurants and clubs must end in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

In a statement yesterday he demanded that people work from home where possible and for citizens to take individual responsibility to prevent COV-19 from overwhelming the health service.

He warned although measures are extreme, way may have to go further quickly in the coming days.

Mr Johnson promised help for families and businesses hit by the financial impact of coronavirus measures, saying it would be delivered with a "profound sense of urgency".
