Coronavirus: Bobby Burns set to return home as Australian A-League is suspended

Bobby Burns admits it is a "sad time" after his spell in the Australian A-League came to an end this week.

The Hearts defender has been on-loan with Newcastle Jets since last September.

The former Glenavon man was an unused substitute in Monday's 2-1 win over Melbourne City, a result that leaves the Jets ninth in the table.

The game was played behind closed doors as a precaution against coronavirus, but now the A-League has been suspended until at least April 22.

Burns is now trying to return home along with former Republic of Ireland international Wes Hoolahan who also plays for the Jets.

"The club have been great with me. Wes and I are flying home as soon as possible to Ireland and then I will be back to Hearts when I can. It's a sad way to finish here but it's for the best," said Burns.

"I'm finding it so hard to get a flight. I need to do a coronavirus test before some countries will let me fly.

"There are hardly any flights, plus stopovers are like ten-hour breaks. Then I'll have to isolate when I'm home so it's all a bit mad.

"I'm just hoping I get home as flights are being cancelled all over the place."

Newcastle Jets Supporters said on Facebook: "Bobby and Wes are likely to return to Ireland later this week (if they don’t test positive for Corona Virus).

"It’s likely that we won’t see them again in Jets colours."
