Coronavirus - BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art shut 'until further notice'

The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art will be closed until further notice.

The Gateshead art gallery and cultural space closed to the public from 6pm on Monday due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the Baltic's management said: "Following updates from the Government and guidelines from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England in relation to Coronavirus (Covid-19), BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead will be closed to the public from 6pm on Monday March 16 2020 until further notice."

Window cleaners who were due to work at the Baltic on Tuesday were turned away by security as the building is on 'shut down', they told ChronicleLive.

The BALTIC's gallery space in Newcastle, BALTIC 39, will also be shut to visitors, although artists who work there are allowed in through the main reception.

The BALTIC says updates will be posted online on its website and social media pages.
