Coronavirus: Ayrshire school to close for deep clean

A Kilmarnock school will close tomorrow amid coronavirus fears.

Willowbank School will be shut for two days for a deep clean, East Ayrshire Council has said.

The local authority say that it's being carried out as a "precautionary measure".

Education bosses expect the school to reopen on Wednesday.

A message sent out to parents this evening confirmed the news.

The message reads: "Following advice from NHS Ayrshire & Arran public heath team, Willowbank School will close as for a period of 48 hours from tomorrow for a deep clean to be carried out.

"This is being undertaken as a precautionary measure in order to safeguard the wellbeing of pupils and staff.

"A further update will be provided in due course. The school is expected to reopen on Wednesday."

There are six cases of coronavirus confirmed in Ayrshire to date and 153 positive results across Scotland.
