Coronavirus Ayrshire: New region case rates published by Public Health Scotland

New figures released today show the latest coronavirus case rates across Ayrshire.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced earlier this week that the tiers system will be returning at the end of April.

New infection rates will play a crucial role in determining what level council areas will be placed in when lockdown starts to ease from April 26.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran's latest seven-day case rate per 100,000 is currently at 109.1.

East Ayrshire currently has the highest rate in the region at 141.8 — a slight decrease from yesterday.

Meanwhile, North Ayrshire has a rate of 116.5 and South Ayrshire has the lowest at the moment (63.9).

Ayrshire has also suffered one more coronavirus death in the past 24 hours.

The person is one of 670 COVID-19 deaths in the NHS Ayrshire & Arran region.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran hospital numbers have risen slightly from 122 to 124.

ICU numbers in Ayrshire remain at nine for a fourth consecutive day.

The region also recorded 38 new virus cases with the region's total now at 15,297.

Across Scotland 27 more people have died overnight with the nation's death toll now at 7,111.

And 581 new cases have been detected. Scotland's total number of cases now stands at 200,987.
