Coronavirus: Arnold Schwarzenegger partners with TikTok in $3 million move to feed students

Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger has joined forces with TikTok to help students during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Terminator actor and former Governor of California, 72, has joined forces with the social media giant to help feed students during the health crisis.

According to TMZ, TikTok will donate $3 million to feed families across the country with Schwarzenegger's After-School All-Stars programme.

The move allows 60 cities to feed students who would usually eat school to get food vouchers to survive the crisis which has seen a large number of schools close.

The plan will aid major cities in the US that have been most hit by the crisis including Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Seattle.

The food is due to come from companies such as Food Land, Safeway, Walmart, Publix, Ralphs, Kroger, Giant, and Target.

TikTok is also matching up to $1 million in employee donations to aid Arnold's organisation in its endeavours to feed families most in need.

There have been 13,304 reported cases of COVID-19 in the US and 185 confirmed deaths.

President Donald Trump has declared himself a "wartime president".

"It's a war," he said. "I view it as a, in a sense, a wartime president. It's a very tough situation."

Trump is poised to sign the Defense Production Act, which gives him the power to direct civilian businesses to help meet orders for products necessary and deploying two Navy hospital ships.

There have been more than 200,000 cases of coronavirus worldwide and approaching 9,000 deaths.

There were 2,626 positive cases in the UK, as of 9am on Wednesday, according to official government figures.
