Coronavirus area breakdown as Bristol region records almost 300 more cases

Almost 300 more coronavirus cases have been identified in the Bristol area in a 24-hour period.

The latest government figures released today (Saturday, February 6) also show nine more people in the city and surrounding area have died after contracting the virus.

Across all four local authorities in the wider Bristol region, there were 282 new covid cases, compared to 293 yesterday.

Another six people in Bristol have died with the virus, and another two people in North Somerset.

South Gloucestershire recorded one more death , while Bath and North East Somerset did not record any.

The breakdown of new cases

The daily rise in cases for each part of the region is recorded below, with the total figure during the pandemic in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +23 (7,613)

  • Bristol: +133 (27,723)

  • North Somerset: +59 (9,131)

  • South Gloucestershire: +67 (13,555)

Across the UK today, a further 18,262 cases were confirmed, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 3,929,835.

Another 828 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus, meaning the UK death toll now stands at 112,092.

As of yesterday (February 5), 11,465,210 people across the UK have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 510,057 have had both doses.

The statistics for hospitals, which have more of a time lag than the cases and deaths data, show that there were still hundreds of patients battling the virus in the Bristol area.

At North Bristol NHS Trust, 168 covid patients were being cared for as of the latest count on Tuesday, February 2.

There were 194 covid patients at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust on the same date.
