Coronavirus and the best cities in Scotland to work from home

The outbreak of coronavirus has meant people are being urged to stay at home as employers attempt to limit exposure and halt the spread.

So far, four new cases of Covid-19 have been identified in Scotland bringing the total to 27 as dozens have been told to self-isolate.

But as more people are being told to stay away from the office - what Scottish cities are the best to work from home?

In a study by by  RingCentral , Edinburgh ranked 7th in the UK with 2,947 remote working opportunities for employees amid Covid-19 chaos.

Glasgow came in a very close 8th, with 2,928 job options to work from home.

Elsewhere in the UK, London came out on top as the best place to work remotely with 38,173 opportunities, with Coventry and Northampton the worst, with 56 and 62 respectively.

Other UK cities that proved good places for employees to work remotely were the Channel Islands, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.

And the types of roles that most likely offer remote working are business development, sales executive, account management, software engineers and letting agents.

However, the majority of remote working job roles fell into the lowest bracket slaary - with 38% paid less than an annual salary of £19,999.

The Scottish Government has warned up to 80% of the population could become infected with coronavirus - which could have a major impact on the workforce.

Employers across Scotland have already been encouraged to be extra vigilant, including sending home employees who have travelled to infected areas or have been in close contacted with anyone diagnosed with Covid-19.

Bosses have also ramped up hygiene efforts in offices and the workplace - including information on washing hands, disposing of tissues and providing hand sanitiser.

If possible, employers have also been urged to consider designating an isolation room where an employee who feels ill can go and privately call the NHS on 111 before taking any further necessary action.

Where an employee is not sick but the employer insists that they remain away from the workplace as a precautionary measure, they should be paid as normal.
