Coronavirus: Amazing scenes as army of Ringsend residents perform Saturday Night social distancing dance routine from Derry Girls

An army of Dublin locals have gone extremely viral after they came together - at a distance - to perform one of the most iconic dance routines of all time.

Ringsend residents lined the streets, abiding by the two metre rule, to perfectly pull off moves to 90s hit Saturday Night by Whigfield taken from a scene in a popular Channel 4 show.

The cheesy and infectious tune has gotten a second wind of popularity in the last few years.

One - it's the song sang by Liverpool fans about a forward who just loves scoring important goals...

"Saturday night, and I like the way you move, Divock Origi"

''It's Sunday night and he scored against the sh***'' Divock Origi."

But secondly, it's one of the highlight moments of the brilliant television show, Derry Girls.

The programme, which focuses on the lives of four girls (and a wee English fella) from Derry in the 90s became one of the most viewed shows ever in British television history with that routine one of the stand out moments of the debut season.

During the fourth episode of the first series, the girls uncontrollably break into dance when the intro comes on at a house party despite being in the middle of concocting another one of their devilish plans.

So, it's no wonder that the locals of Canon Mooney Gardens decided to have a go for themselves...

The video, posted by Rebecca Larkin on Friday, has already amassed a staggering 250,000 views online and has certainly put the area on the map.

Ringsend. Represent.
