Coronavirus advice issued to the public with more than 320 people now tested across UK

Government advice has been issued on how people can best protect themselves from coronavirus, with more than 320 people now having been tested across the UK.

Two patients in England , and the risk to the public has been raised from low to moderate by chief medical officers.

So far there have been 326 tests for the virus in the UK, with 324 coming back negative and two positive. 26 of the tests have been in Scotland.

However works are ongoing to contact a number of passengers who travelled from Wuhan to the UK between 10 and 24 January.

For other members of the public, the guidance suggestions that people should use tissues to catch coughs and sneezes, and wash hands regularly to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

UK-wide ads released at the weekend are warning people to always carry tissues, and wash hands with soap and water, or sanitiser gel.

Health secretary Matt Hanock said that the "highly trained and experienced clinicians are working round the clock" to prevent the spread of the illness, but the general public can also play its part.

He added: "Basic hygiene such as washing our hands regularly and using tissues when we cough and sneeze can play an important role in minimising the spread of viruses like this.

"We have launched a UK-wide advertising campaign to help the public protect themselves and eachother."

He said that the "world-class NGS is well prepared to manage these types of incidents".
