Coronavirus: 24 deaths confirmed at Erskine charity's care homes

Twenty-four residents at Erskine care homes for ex-servicemen and women are believed to have died from coronavirus.

Three residents at Erskine care homes died after being diagnosed with the virus while a further 21 passed away with suspected coronavirus. The charity said it had been unable to test them as they've only recently received kits.

The charity cares for over 300 residents at its four care homes, two in Bishopton, one in Glasgow and one in Edinburgh.

It has not been confirmed which homes have had deaths from the virus.

The care homes were closed to families or visitors on 16 March and there have been limited to essential visits since. None of the deaths occurred before March 16.

During the pandemic, 90 residents have been ‘barrier nursed’ - people treated in isolation after showing symptoms. Forty-eight have since recovered, while 18 remain in isolation.
