Coronavirus: 130 people tested for deadly virus in Scotland in last 24 hours

More than 100 people have been tested for the deadly coronavirus in Scotland in the last 24-hours.

The latest Scottish Government update has revealed that 130 new people had been tested overnight, but there are still no confirmed cases. This takes the total number of people tested in Scotland to 630.

Edinburgh Live reported yesterday how a "drive-thru" testing centre had been set up by NHS Lothian at the Western General. The set-up will see people met by healthcare professionals in protective clothing who will ask them to wind down their car window. A throat swab will then be taken and the patient will be given self-isolation information, and asked to remain at home. Results should be returned in 24 hours.

The new information comas as three more patients have tested positive for the coronavirus in England, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 23 across the UK.

The strain, known as Covid-19, started in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and there have been almost 3000 reported deaths in the country to date.

As reported by the Daily Record , Catherine Calderwood, Scotland's chief medical officer, said that the Government and NHS were working on "containment first" and then in the event of an outbreak a range of measures to limit the number of people infected would be brought in.
