Public Health England's data shows five Covid deaths were in North Somerset.

Four were reported in Bath and North East Somerset, while both Bristol and South Gloucestershire reported one death.

Despite today's high infections, Bristol's Covid rate per 100,000 people continued to fall, and now stands at 127.1.

The reason our rate hasn't increased after today's high figures is because there is a time lag of five days in the data.

England's rate has peaked at 153, as the South West's increased to 79.3.

Experts will be deciding next week if our city, and its neighbouring areas, should remain in Tier 3 restrictions.

Covid rates, cases and hospital admissions will all play a crucial role in helping ministers determine our new status.

The latest figures released on Monday (December 7) show 114 more Covid patients were admitted to hospitals across the South West. This brings the total to 620 inpatients in the region.

UK-wide, 516 further deaths were confirmed over the past 24 hours, with 20,964 more people testing positive for the virus.

The UK's Covid-19 death toll has reached 73,125, where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate.
