Coronavirus: 11 deaths confirmed across Bristol region in single day

A further 11 people have lost their lives after contracting coronavirus across the Bristol region today (December 9).

Five of the deaths were confirmed in South Gloucestershire, while three were in Bath and North East Somerset.

North Somerset recorded a further two, and one was in Bristol.

All the patients had been diagnosed with the virus within the past 28 days.

Since the pandemic first hit, 306 Covid fatalities have been recorded in Bristol where the virus was on the death certificate. This figure was last updated on November 27.

Bristol's  coronavirus rate has fallen once again today - and is now below South Gloucestershire's.

Our city's rate per 100,000 people stands at 128.8, which places us 185th out of a possible 360 areas. This compares to yesterday's 141.4.

South Gloucestershire has climbed to 180th, with a rate of 132.2.

Both areas are below the national average of 151, but still higher than the South West's 78.9 - which is the lowest region in the country.

UK-wide, 533 further deaths were confirmed over the past 24 hours, with 12,282 more people testing positive for the virus.

The UK's Covid-19 death toll has reached 73,125, where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate.
