A 106-year-old woman, thought to be the oldest person in the UK to recover from coronavirus, has been discharged from hospital.
Connie Titchen, who was born in 1913, was diagnosed with coronavirus soon after being admitted to Birmingham City Hospital in mid-March with suspected pneumonia.
She made a full recovery after three weeks and left hospital on Tuesday.
Ms Titchen, who is a great-grandmother, said: “I feel very lucky that I’ve fought off this virus. I can’t wait to see my family.”
Alex Jones, her granddaughter, thanked staff at the hospital for taking ”brilliant” care of her.
Ms Jones said her grandmother is “physically active and very independent” and loved to dance, cycle and play golf.
“She has always cooked for herself too, although she likes a cheeky McDonalds every now and then. I haven’t told her they are closed,” she added.
Nurse Kelly Smith, who looked after Ms Titchen during her time in hospital, said: “It’s been fantastic to see Connie recover. She is amazing and we’ve been doing our best to nurse her back to health.
“We were really pleased when she was given the all clear. It’s nice to see patients leave our ward after having beaten this virus.”
Staff applauded her as she left the Birmingham hospital on Tuesday.
