Coronation Street viewers stunned by fake heart attack claim

She's been a much-loved Corrie character for the past 11 years, but viewers reckon Mary Taylor has gone too far this time.

During Friday night's Coronation Street double bill Mary went to extreme measures to get Ed Bailey to his surprise birthday party, by pretending his wife Aggie had suffered a heart attack.

Mary raced to find Ed at work and told him a blatant terrible lie.

"Ed, come quick, it's Aggie. I think she's had a heart attack," she gasped.

When Ed arrived home he was more concerned about Aggie, who turned out to be in full health, to even notice the party packed with their neighbours.

"This crazy woman told me you'd had a heart attack," he told her.

"Full marks for creativity. Well it was the only way we could get you here," Aggie told him.

"I'm the one who's nearly had a heart attack," he complained.

But the lie was soon forgotten as the couple shared an embrace.

"MARY," shouted one stunned viewer on Twitter.

"LOL. A heart attack?! That’s a bit extreme," commented another.

"Mary that was a bad lie to tell," scolded a third Corrie watcher.

"Bit drastic, a heart attack, Mary.." tweeted another.

The Bailey family moved onto Coronation Street in Norris Cole and Emily Bishop's old home in June and have since been renovating the house.

Mother-of-two Aggie thought a party would be the ideal way to get to know their neighbours after ruffling feathers with Claudia Colby who lives next door with their noise and failing to impress with her attempts at cooking while working in Roy's cafe.

Eldest son Michael has been involved in Bernie Winters' fake pregnancy tests scam and their teenager James is hiding that he's gay from his family.

Aggie and Ed also have a daughter Dee-Dee who couldn't make it to the party.
