Coronation Street viewers baffled as Johnny's daughter Kate fails to turn up to his funeral

Coronation Street viewers were left very confused as Kate Connor failed to turn up to her own father's funeral.

Johnny, played by Richard Hawley, tragically died while saving estranged wife Jenny down a sinkhole.

Heroically, the former pub landlord climbed down the sinkhole to help Jenny after discovering she had fallen down it.

Sadly, Johnny struggled in the the cold water due to his MS and ended up drowning.

Tonight, viewers watched as Jenny paid tribute to Johnny, bursting into tears as she said: "We both made mistakes... I hope he knew I loved him, because I loved him so very much."

Before her speech began, she told everyone present that Kate had wanted to be there but was unable to make it.

Fans will remember that Kate moved abroad back in 2019, just a year after her brother Aidan's death.

And viewers were puzzled that Kate couldn't turn up to her own dad's funeral.

One tweeted: "Kate couldn't make it to her dad's funeral? What a load of b******s!"

While another fumed: "Kate not bothered about attending her Dad's funeral? #Corrie."

A third wrote: "Seems a bit insensitive for Kate not to be at her own father's funeral?"

"Kate can't be here today. Selfish selfish Kate. #corrie," another commented.

One pointed out: "'Lovely' Kate may be gutted that she can't be there, but the viewers are not. #Corrie

Corrie's executive producer Iain MacLeod previously confirmed that the effects of Johnny's death would continue to play out into 2022.

"Having done a number of event weeks, it’s only worth doing if the aftermath is more interesting than the week," he said.

"It’s all very well blowing up the Street so to speak, but it only means so much if it doesn’t change lives or have an aftermath. There are brilliant final chapters but exciting novel and new chapters in other stories – some of which are surprising. It’s a launch pad for Christmas and New Year."

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV
