Coronation Street tragedy as spoilers confirm Oliver's devastating hospital results

Coronation Street fans saw Leanne Battersby given fresh hope that her son Oliver would be okay on Friday night, after a change in his behaviour.

But new spoilers for the ITV soap have confirmed her hopes are tragically dashed in upcoming scenes.

Corrie fans will see the character learn what is really behind her three year old's recent illness.

Little Oliver will be diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, after a recent spell of seizures and ill health.

Just as Leanne and partner Nick Tilsley are hopeful his condition is improving ahead of his hospital appointment, they are given news that leaves the entire family in turmoil.

Leanne and Oliver’s father Steve McDonald were left concerned recently to learn their son could have the life limiting condition.

The hospital ran a number of medical tests on the little one, including some for genetic conditions as the consultant suggested it was likely he had a genetic illness.

While Oliver has been a lot more active and more like himself in the past few days, It was Friday that saw him appear to have an appetite for the first time in weeks.

Leanne believed it was a positive sign, despite her worries about the appointment that evening.

It's when she got there though that she learned from the consultant that the test results had come in, and she was keen to speak with her and Steve in private.

The episode ended with the worried parents fearing something was wrong, as they made their way into her office.

Spoilers for next week have confirmed that they are told, leading to devastating scenes.

The consultant will deliver the tragic news that Oliver does have mitochondrial disease, and his condition is incurable.

A shocked Leanne demands a second opinion, convinced there must be a mistake and that something can be done for her boy.

Steve is reeling from the news, with the whole family in pieces about the diagnosis.

The family rally around each other and Oliver, as Leanne struggles to cope with the idea of losing her son.
