Coronation Street teen Alex Bain opens up on being a father and getting help from on-screen dad

Coronation Street's Alex Bain has opened up on being a dad to his two-year-old daughter, Lydia-Rose.

The actor has grew up on screen having played tearaway Simon Barlow on the ITV soap since 2008.

But away from his day job, Alex has a much bigger role to play as dad to his little girl.

The 19-year-old told Inside Soap that he loves fatherhood but admitted it isn't always easy.

"I adore having a child, I really do, and I wouldn't have it any other way," he told the publication.

"But don't get me wrong, she runs me ragged!" he joked. "It was quite nice to take a breather in lockdown, and have time to slow down and watch my daughter grow.

"She's actually just started nursery, which is pretty scary."

And it sounds like she's taking after her dad.

"My family has always said that I was exactly like she is when I was her age," Alex said. "Before Covid, she was going to dance classes as well, so she's really following in her dad's footsteps. She's always dancing and singing – it's great!"

Alex also heaped praise on his on-screen dad Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow.

"He has always looked after me in real life as well," Alex said of his Corrie co-star. "When I had a child I was worrying at the start, and Chris was there alongside my family to help.

"I can't describe Chris in any other way than as being truly amazing, and one of the most talented actors I've ever met."

Alex previously told the Manchester Evening News how his young daughter Lydia helped keeping him going through lockdown.

The teen has rarely spoken about his little girl who was born in December 2018 when he was just 17 with his then girlfriend Levi Selby.
