Coronation Street: Steve's manic baseball bat attack has deadly consequences

Steve McDonald's life goes from bad to worse after a baseball bat attack on next week's Coronation Street .

Cobble newbie James is feared dead after being hit by a car as he runs from Steve.

The cab firm owner's problems continue as he struggles after being inadvertently involved in an armed robbery.

He gets a fright when he finds a police officer asking Tim questions about the petrol station robbery and reveals a Street Cars taxi was involved.

Worried Steve tells the police he was driving but had no choice as the robber threatened him - but will he confess to picking the guy up illegally?

Steve feels on edge after the incident, but wife Tracy insists he must go back out to get money for a new home.

The nervy cab driver decides he needs protection and puts a baseball bat under his seat.

Steve picks up three lads from a bowling alley, but they refuse to pay their fare.

With the robbery flashing through his mind, Steve grabs his baseball bat and threatens the boys.

As they do a runner, James runs out across the road and is hit by a car.

Thankfully, James gets back up to his feet and says he doesn't want to make a fuss as he plays for Weatherfield County.

But the incident has a deep impact on Steve - and even Tracy is shocked by the scale of his despair.

With Steve only able to work at the switch amid police intervention and a row with Tim, it's time for the girls to take over.

The boys are stunned when Tracy, Eileen and Liz announce they are going to run Street Cars for the time being.

Tracy and Liz reveal they will be driving the cabs while Eileen will apply for an operator's license.

Steve and Tim reluctantly accept their plan - but will it be a success?
