Coronation Street stars work three-hour shift at Weston-super-Mare butchers

A lucky butchers in Weston-super-Mare received a helping hand from a pair of telly stars.

Many will recognise the pair of actors Andrew Whyment and Steven Arnold from Coronation Street.

Mr Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland, and Mr Arnold, who portrayed Ashley Peacock, turned up at the Weston Meat Shack in High Street yesterday, Saturday September 26.

They were behind the counter for three hours serving up some top quality meat and delighting Somerset folk with some joyful banter, from 11am until 2pm.

Mr Whyment has been on the ITV soap for 20 years. His character, Kirk, works in the knicker factory at Underworld in the packing department on the famous soap.

Mr Arnold left the show in 2010, after portraying Ashley for 15 years who died in the show's 50th birthday episode, broadcast live.

An explosion at The Joinery caused a tram to derail onto the street. His final appearance was on December 10, 2010.

During the famous pair's visit, social distancing was adhered to and they were wearing face visors.

They announced the winners for a competition run by the butcher shop on a Facebook Live broadcast at the beginning of their shift.
