Coronation Street stars take on anti-gay protesters at Pride parade

Stars of Coronation Street confronted anti-gay protesters at Pride parade today with cobbles favourite Anthony Cotton telling the bigots where to go.

The logo on Anthony's shirt said: "Some people are gay, get over it."

But he had an even more important message to the anti-Pride protesters on Peter Street in Manchester.

The cobbles favourite , who plays Sean Tully, jumped off the ITV soap’s float to hit back at those 'demonstrating' nearby.

Antony marched over to the small group while waving a huge rainbow flag, reaching out to tickle their placards with it.

"Ahhh shut up," he said.

The crowd cheered on the Cobbles favourite, who couldn’t sign off his moment without blowing a kiss to the small group of protesters.

He then hopped back on his float to celebrate with his on-screen family.

Cotton's Corrie pal Dolly-Rose Campbell was later seen holding a sign that read: "Jesus had two dads and he turned out fine."

Dan Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew in the soap, said it was important to attend events like Pride.

"Corrie has always been a huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ movement," he told the MEN .

"Although we are lucky enough to live in the UK, where laws and how people react to the LGBTQ+ community is good, there are still 70-odd countries where people like me are illegal - eight of which still carry the death penalty.

"So it's important to show our solidarity."
