Coronation Street stars appear to be bidding a tearful farewell to beloved character Norris Cole with a funeral scene filmed on the cobbles.
Stars including Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt, Bill Roache (Ken Barlow) and Rula Lenska (Claudia Colby) shot the scenes on Wednesday.
Norris was played by Malcolm Hebden for 27 years until he quit the soap in January, following a near-fatal heart attack in 2017 which left him in an induced coma for almost a month.
Malcolm, who joined the soap in 1994, said at the start of this year: “I absolutely adored playing Norris and I was pleased to be able to return briefly after my operation.
“It took a great deal of courage to make the decision to retire. But I had come to realise that although the mind was willing the body was not so much.”
Last year, Malcolm appeared in scenes where he moved into the Stillwaters care home, along with Ken Barlow and his then-partner Claudia.
In the pictures taken on this week's filming, Bill - who was wearing formal attire - can be seen getting his tie fixed by Rula.
Helen was also pictured during the funeral scene.
Malcolm appeared in more than 1,600 episodes and was often seen working with other characters including Rita Sullivan and Blanche Hunt.
After he retired from the soap drama, the show writers killed off his character off-screen.
Explaining the decision to kill off the character, a Corrie insider revealed to The Sun: “When Malcolm left the soap he made it clear he would not be returning and bosses took the decision to write him out.
“Norris was a huge character for Coronation Street and his funeral will be filled with fun and laughter as well as tears.
