Coronation Street stars officially launch Christmas in the Gay Village

Coronation Street stars swapped the cobbles of Weatherfield for the Gay Village as they officially launched Christmas.

Dolly-Rose Campbell, Charlie de Melo, Daniel Brocklebank, Rob Mallard and Sam Aston flicked the switch on the Christmas lights at New York New York.

The Corrie favourites were all smiles as they joined the festivities at the bar in Bloom Street - and it made a change from all the drama currently happening on the soap.

Dolly-Rose and Sam play new parents Gemma Winter and Chesney Brown who recently welcomed quadruplets.

Gemma is also going through heartache after discovering that her twin brother Paul Foreman was sexually abused by their mum Bernie's boyfriend Kel Hinchley.

Paul is being supported by his boyfriend Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel, as he reveals the ordeal he went through as a teenager to Gemma and his mum, who found photos of Paul at Kel's home in Friday night's double bill.

One viewer said about the harrowing scenes: "The guy playing Paul is such a great actor. Very hard to watch tonight and very sad."

"Wonderful scenes with Paul Gemma Billy and Bernie," said another.

And another fan said: "It's a very powerful episode and well done to everyone involved from actors to writers and director etc."

Money was raised on the night of the switch-on for The Christie and Prevent Breast Cancer.

New York New York told their followers on Twitter: "Thanks to everyone who came down last night and partied with us at the Christmas Light Switch On! We had a great time and hope you did too! Here’s to an EPIC festive season here at the Party Palace."

Sharing photos from the event one fan said: "Great to see so many cast from @itvcorrie tonight at @newyorkbarmcr #Christmas light switch on in #Manchester."
