Coronation Street star Tracie Bennett assures fans she is OK after tearful selfie

Coronation Street star Tracie Bennett was forced to assure fans she was fine after sharing a photograph of herself in tears online.

The 59-year-old soap star – who played Sharon Gaskell on Corrie from 1982–1984 before returning in 1999 – shared a tearful snap of herself and uploaded it to Twitter.

She inexplicably uploaded the image along with no caption or explanation – leading to an outpouring of concern from fans.

However, she returned to Twitter to assure fans she had shared the snap in error – as she had initially intended to upload the snap as part of a “How it started/How it’s going” meme.

Assuring fans she was fine, Tracie wrote: “I’m ok everyone.

“There’s been never ending overwhelming bad news all around me for a while. Had to have an emotional cleanse today , to reset. Better out than in.

“Meanwhile, Thanks so very much for all your kindness.”

She had originally shared the tearful selfie during a "How it started/Where it's going" post (Twitter/@OfficialTracieBennett)

Her intended post saw her share a photo of herself as a bright eyed child for the “How it started” section – and a more recent photo of herself in tears for the “Where it’s going” section.

However, she seemingly accidentally uploaded the tearful image a second time alone – which is why fans had been left alarmed.

Updating worried fans, she wrote: “I have absolutely NO recollection of me putting this single pic up here today.

“I put the two pics together, up. I must have made a mistake. Specsavers. Jeez. So sorry.”

The star explained she uploaded the tearful selfie on it's own a second time by accident (Twitter/@OfficialTracieBennett)

She continued: “Didn’t mean to cause this amount of alarm? Just felt helpless & hopeless at not being able to help others.”

She added: “Again, to be very clear, I made a mistake putting this pic up,by itself. It was meant to be part of the other young/old tweet.”

Fans appreciated the update, with one writing: “Ok I have just read this, I was panicking. I am glad your ok...I hope. Tracie love you very much...I just want you to know that.”
