Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon says kids need family fun, not staring at iPads

Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has revealed she keeps a close eye on the amount of screen time her children have and loves to get them involved in family activities instead.

The soap actress, who has two children under the age of 10, is supporting getting children away from digital devices.

Samia, who has played hairdresser Maria Connor on the famous cobbles for 19 years, limits her daughter Freya, nine, and son Yves, three, to one hour a day.

She said: “It’s all too easy to let the kids stay on the iPad or other electronic devices, especially during the six weeks school summer holidays.

“We limit the children to one hour a day and focus on being active instead.”

Samia, 37, from Eccles, was speaking at the launch of the new family attraction Inflata Nation in West Bromwich where she was joined for a 'digital detox' by Freya and Yves and her husband Sylvain.

This week the doting mum shared a photo of herself and Freya, her daughter with her ex husband Matt Smith, enjoying time together at Manchester's King Street Townhouse hotel.

"My little golden girl is growing up so fast..." she told her Instagram followers.

"You must be so proud," said one follower.

"Lovely pic of you both," said another.

And Samia recently gave her son a tour of the Coronation Street set, based at Trafford Wharf.

"Gave Yves a little tour of the cobbles today, he was curious to see mummy’s work.. it got the thumbs up so all good!" she said, sharing a photo of mother and son outside the Rovers Return.

Yves, her son with Dancing on Ice professional skater Sylvain who partnered her on the show in 2013, gave the street a thumbs-up in the adorable photo.

Samia's unlucky-in-love character recently went through a catalogue of dating disasters on the soap.

The single mum took the plunge and signed up to Internet dating, but was dismayed to end up with a suitor who likes to dress up as a dog and another who brought his mum on the date.

Maria has since found romance with doctor Ali Neeson, who comforted her over her troubled lovelife.
