Coronation Street star lifts lid on possible Shona exit amid David kiss

Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has lifted the lid on a possible exit for Shona on the ITV soap.

Shona - played by Julia - returns next week, vowing to never leave David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) again. The actress temporarily departed her role whist expecting her child but is set to come back to the Cobbles next week.

However, things don't turn out too well for David and Shona as she returns to find him trying to drunkenly kiss Maria, who has been very supportive of him throughout Max's trial and sentencing for his involvement in the right wing terrorist group.

Actress Julia has now responded to fan rumours that she could quit her role amid the big split storyline.

"Every time Shona's away, David tries to get off with someone else," she told Inside Soap. Discussing whether she would really leave David and the Cobbles for good, she added: "The Shona of old would have, because she is more cutthroat. But Shona and David have been through so much together, and she really loves the kids; she quite likes the life she has.

"She sees that as something worth saving — you do when you grow up, don’t you? You don’t pack your bags half as much when you have a row. From Shona'a point of view, there's no point laying the blame at Maria's door, which I think is really nice."

She added: "It shows female solidarity, rather than a woman immediately blaming the other woman."

Shona last exited the Cobbles back in December when Julia went on maternity leave, and at the time, Jack - who plays David - insisted she wouldn't be murdered by serial killer Stephen and that her exit was going to be very simple.

Asked about her exit at the time, he said: "No, no she’s not [going to be Stephen’s next victim]. It’s not dramatic at all. I can tell you she goes off to look after Lily in London. She’s doing a football tournament in London and she needs a chaperone.

"She goes, ‘I’ll go’, and goes off on maternity leave. The last time Julia went off on maternity leave Shona got shot! So it was like, what are we gonna do? Are we gonna do that again, is she gonna leave David?

"But no, it is gonna be a run of the mill. She goes off and then she comes back."
