Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has left the cobbles to go on maternity leave

Coronation Street actress Julia Goulding is officially on maternity leave as she awaits the arrival of her first child.

Julia's last day on the cobbles before her leave was marked by her co-star Jane Danson on Instagram.

Jane, who plays Leanne Battersby, shared a photo of herself being hugged by Julia, who plays Shona Ramsey.

She wrote: "Happy maternity leave beautiful @julia_goulding.

"I'm so excited for you. Enjoy this special time. Happiest days."

And in return Julia thanked Jane for 'looking after her' in her last days on the street before leave.

"Awww thanks, love you Jane! Thanks for looking after me in the lead up!" she replied.

"Enjoy some rest before baby arrives Julia. Such an exciting time. Hope all goes well when the time comes xxx" said one follower.

"Awww enjoy your maternity leave, enjoy every minute, will miss you on screen," said another.

In the soap cafe worker Shona had been caring for her fiancé David Platt’s children Max and Lily after he was jailed for four months for his part in stealing from grandmother Audrey Roberts.

There was further heartache when it looked like he wasn't going to be released in time for their wedding day after rapist Josh Tucker, who ended up in the same prison, framed him for his attempted murder.

But Paul Foreman forced him to tell the truth and David arrived in Weatherfield just in time to say 'I do.'

In May Julia, from Middleton, announced that she was pregnant with her first child.

The Corrie actress announced that she's expecting a baby with her husband Ben Silver and told her fans by sharing a photo of the happy couple looking ecstatic.

She said: "Ben and I are delighted to announce that we are expecting our first baby at the end of this year! We are absolutely overjoyed and can’t wait to meet our little one!"

Julia revealed in February that she had tied the knot with her partner of three years on stage at Manchester's Albert Hall - which was appropriate because she loves being on stage.

Breaking with tradition the happy couple walked down the aisle holding hands.

Julia has played Shona, who found unlikely romance with David after his late wife Kylie was stabbed to death by her son Clayton, since 2016.
