Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd reveals holiday horror over fatal poisoned drinks

Coronation Street favourite Jack P Shepherd has spoken of the terror that gripped his sunshine break after fellow holidaymakers died in the Dominican Republic.

Jack, who plays David Platt in Corrie , was in the Caribbean celebrating his girlfriend Hanni Treweek's 30th birthday earlier this month when they heard people on the island had died of suspected poisoning.

The resort where the couple were staying wasn't affected but Jack, 31, admitted hearing of the deaths was "a bit hairy."

"I went to the Caribbean, I went to the Dominican Republic. It was really nice but while we were over there quite a few people died," he told us.

"It was a bit hairy but I survived, I came back."

The FBI have launched an investigation after 12 American tourists died while visiting the Dominican Republic, following fears that alcoholic drinks were contaminated with methanol or insecticide.

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism has denied that there has been any poisoning issues and insists it is safe to visit, attributing the deaths to natural causes.

The Caribbean island has seen a 74 per cent drop in tourism following news of the tragic deaths.

On holiday a smitten Jack shared a romantic video on Instagram of himself and Hanni smooching underwater with the caption "My Juliet."

And he posted a video of birthday girl Hanni popping open a bottle of fizz while wading in the sea wearing a pink bikini and matching tiara.

On the cobbles Jack's character David, who is engaged to Shona Ramsey, is having a less romantic time as he faces prison for stealing £80,000 from his own grandmother Audrey Roberts.
