Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd reveals he made a blunder on his first day

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed he made a blunder during his first day with the soap.

The Corrie favourite, who has played David Platt since he was 12, was with his mum in the green room when he met a Weatherfield legend.

The soap icon knew who he was, but unfortunately Jack didn't recognise Johnny Briggs who played the late Underworld factory boss Mike Baldwin.

"I saw Johnny Briggs, he was in the green room," Jack remembered.

"And he came over to me and said 'oh you're the new David Platt aren't you?'

"I said 'yeah, who are you?'

"My mum went 'shut up that's Mike Baldwin'"

Jack, 32, told the story in a video chat with co-star Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, about his 20th anniversary on the soap along with Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw.

The video was shared on his Instagram in celebration of the landmark.

Remembering his first ever line, which was in the cafe, he said it was 'Hello can I have an Eccles cake?'

Asked for his highlight of working on Corrie Jack said: "Being on set with the cast, that's the thing. We're a good bunch and we just get on."

And Sue said her highlight was Eileen's classic fight in the street with Gail Platt.

David, born on Christmas Day 1990, was played by Thomas Ormson from his first appearance until March 2000.

Jack featured in the opening moment of 40th anniversay live episode with sister Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, telling her brother to come inside to get ready for school as he kicked a ball.

He also featured in the 2010 tram crash episode 'running down the street like Tom Cruise' and the drama centred on the Platts in a live episode to celebrate ITV's 60th anniversary in 2015, which saw drug dealer Callum Logan killed off by David's wife Kylie as he attacked Sarah.

Jack won the 2018 British Soap Award for best actor and the 2008 British Soap Award for Villain of the year.
